Sometimes, the International Olympic Committee decides to add some really cool sports to the Olympics, like Rugby Sevens and Speed Climbing. Unfortunately, they get it wrong sometimes, and Breakdancing, aka Breaking seems like a huge mistake.
The “sport” is getting absolutely hammered online as a total embarrassment to the Olympic Movement as it makes its Olympic debut in Paris on Friday.
Breaking is a form of street dancing that originated in New York City and has somehow found its way to the Olympics. 16 men and 16 women are facing off in a bracket-style competition where they are judged on a variety of elements like technique, musicality, vocabulary (variation in elements), execution, and originality.
Here’s a sample routine.

It’s impressive, I guess. But, considering the didn’t include sports like baseball and softball and have cut wrestling weight classes, does Breaking really deserve a spot at the Olympics?
IOC President Thomas Bach claimed they added it to attract young viewers. But, the same people who would maybe watch this likely don’t love the Olympics to begin with. They’re not going to start watching the other, money-making sports, because Breaking is in the Olympics.
I'm watching Olympic breakdancing. I feel like I'm watching a mockumentary. #Olympics

Thankfully, it’s not set to be included at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. We will get real sports like Baseball, Softball, Lacrosse, Cricket and Flag Football instead.
