The 2025 college football season began with a rivalry matchup between Iowa State and Kansas State in Ireland. It was apparently very easy to identify the Americans.
Just look at their cup.
James Doyle, an Irish content creator best known as ‘Protein Bor Papi,’ attended the college football season-opener in his home country. He knew right away who was from out of town.
An Irishman tried college football in Dublin.
Before we go any further here, it must be noted that the Aer Lingus College Football Classic invited Doyle to the game as a guest of the event. All of his videos from the game are paid promotion.
Take his opinions with a grain of salt.
With that being said, Doyle appeared to genuinely enjoy himself. How can you not?!
I can speak from experience— Cyclones fans are some of the best people in the world. I would imagine that Wildcats fans are the same because… midwest. Both fanbases want everybody to have fun. They are willing to put their rivalry aside in the sake of health, happiness and beer.
That leads us to Doyle’s “tell” for Americans.
Who is from the United States?
He claims that a true Irish-native would never drink a Guinness from a plastic cup. Only from a tall, frosty pint glass. People from the U.S. drank from plastic.
I would imagine the plastic cup rule stemmed from stadium policy. Very few people would choose a plastic cup over a glass in any scenario. It must be required. This is where I have my questions.
Aviva Stadium typically serves as the home to the Irish national soccer and rugby teams.
Do the fans in Ireland not drink during the game? Are they allowed to drink from a glass in the stands?
It appears as though Aviva serves Rockshore, Guinness and Carlsberg on draft. It also has Rockshore Cider in a bottle.
If Doyle’s assessment is accurate, Aviva must not sell many Guinnesses during Ireland games. A true Irishman would never drink a Guinness from a plastic cup so that leaves him with only Rockshore and Carlsberg.
