Most people who attend a PGA Tour tournament won’t think twice about standing in close proximity to golfers who rarely botch a shot to the point where it has the chance to hit an unsuspecting spectator. However, you should think twice about taking the same approach at an event featuring amateurs, and one person learned that the hard way courtesy of Ja Rule.
Only an incredibly dedicated masochist would describe getting hit by a golf ball as a pleasant experience, as you do not want to end up in the path of one of those tiny hard objects that usually hit triple-digit speeds when they come off the club.
If you play golf on a regular basis with people who can’t consistently get the ball to go where they want it to, you either want to stay firmly behind a playing partner when they’re taking a swing or be prepared to dive out of the way if you decide to post up in a spot where a shot could end up.
People tend to be a bit more daring when they attend golf tournaments that usually feature players who are a bit more competent than the typical weekend hack, although there is one internet classic that highlights the pitfalls of putting too much faith in those competitors.
Now, we’ve been treated to another cautionary tale thanks to Ja Rule.
Ja Rule hit a spectator with a tee shot he shanked at Derek Jeter’s celebrity golf tournament
On Monday, the Derek Jeter Invitational kicked off at the Royal Blue Golf Course at the Baha Mar resort in The Bahamas, and the Hall of Fame shortstop assembled a roster of notable players including Tiki Barber, Chris Tucker, and John McEnroe.
Ja Rule also got the nod, and it would appear the man who was involved in the original Fyre Festival does not have the best luck when it comes to events in The Bahamas.
Golf journalist Alan Schupak was one of the dozens of people who crowded around the rapper when he stepped up to the tee box on Tuesday, but he fell victim to the pressure by shanking his drive directly into the crowd to his right.

Schupack didn’t end up being struck by the ball, and the same can be said for C.C. Sabathia, who captured the shank from a similar angle that showed it striking the arm of a photographer who seemed to be able to shake it off.
50 Cent might never be able to live down one of the most atrocious ceremonial pitches of all time, but I’m sure he’s glad to have some additional ammunition to use against one of his sworn enemies.
