Texas A&M slugger Jace LaViolette has entered the transfer portal after his head coach, Jim Schlossnagle, bailed for rival Texas. A somewhat unexpected move, the news comes just hours after he posted a now-deleted message about his Aggies future.

LaViolette has become a superstar in College Station, and a potential No. 1 overall MLB Draft pick. The outfielder bashed 29 bombs to go along with 78 RBIs, 16 doubles, and a .305 batting average as a sophomore after setting a freshman record for HRs the year prior.

Now, his future is unknown.

The most intriguing thing about that decision was how quickly his tune changed after hearing that his head coach was on the move to Austin.

On Tuesday at 11:26 AM, LaViolette wrote, “Thank you, @12thMan from the bottom of my heart for everything y’all did for us throughout the year. If you’re in the portal, you’re missing out if you don’t want to be a part of the best university in the nation. This is where people come to be great! Let’s go get it done next year!”

By Wednesday, that post was nowhere to be found.

Reports of Jim Schlossnagle accepting the Texas job surfaced around 7 PM on Tuesday, about seven hours after LaViolette posted his initial excitement on his Texas A&M future.

It was short-lived!

Jace LaViolette is in the portal.

It’s hard to blame the outfielder for his decision given the head coaching move. Now, the attention turns to his next step.

It’s worth noting that he’d committed to play for LSU while Paul Manieri was still at the helm, but following his retirement, LaViolette re-opened his recruitment.

Manieri is now at South Carolina, and it seems the Gamecocks and LSU could both be in play for LaViolette’s next commitment. Texas will likely be in play, too.

He’ll more than likely be a one-year player for that next program as he’s projected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.

More from FloBaseball on that draft outlook:

LaViolette has become one of the top draft prospects in the 2025 draft where he’s competing with Clemson star outfielder Cam Cannarella and high school prospect Ethan Holliday for the No. 1 pick

Is Jace LaViolette Another Aaron Judge?

The comparison is natural.

LaViolette’s size and athleticism only add to his prowess at the plate. One of college baseball’s top transfers, he’ll have the pick of the litter when it comes to choosing his next destination.
