Despite what most WNBA fans might think, Jacy Sheldon is the biggest rival of Caitlin Clark. Not Angel Reese.

The second-year point guards have a longstanding history that started while they were in college.

However, Sheldon will not have her WNBA bodyguards to back her up during the next on-court kerfuffle. She was traded from the Connecticut Sun to the Phoenix Mercury.

Caitlin Clark loves a good rivalry.

Before we go any further down this path, let me first start by saying — the bad blood between Jacy Sheldon and Caitlin Clark only exists on the court. They do not have any outstanding beef. They do not actually hate each other as people. It is just basketball.

With that being said, their on-court rivalry reached a fever pitch when the Sun played at Indiana in June.

Sheldon and Clark were chirping back and forth throughout the first half.

Sheldon later poked Clark in the eye, seemingly by accident. The eye poke sparked a minor scuffle in which Clark got decked. (She flopped!)

Sophie Cunningham fought back in defense of Clark one the next defensive possession. The Fever’s top enforcer committed an intentional hard foul on Sheldon. The foul ignited an all-out brawl.

You know the one!

Connecticut emptied its bench in support of Jacy Sheldon. Her teammates threw hands on her behalf.

Those teammates are no longer her teammates.

Jacy Sheldon is headed to Washington.

The Connecticut Sun traded Jacy Sheldon (and 2026 first-round swap rights) to the Washington Mystics in exchange for Aaliyah Edwards at the WNBA trade deadline. She will effectively replace Brittney Sykes in the backcourt after Sykes was traded to the Sonics.

Although this is not an earth-shattering deal, it does change the dynamics of the league.

Washington will play at Indiana on August 15. The Mystics will then host the Fever on Sept. 7.

Sheldon and Clark are going to go at each other. It’s what they do!

But the same Sun players who had Sheldon’s back last month are no longer her teammates….
