Jade Carey is dealing with a mysterious illness while in Paris for the Olympics. The reigning gold medalist in Floor Exercise will not get an opportunity to defend her title in the event after a disastrous fall during the qualifying rounds on Sunday and blamed the struggles on her health.
Meanwhile, her aunt is not helping to clear up the strange circumstances surrounding her niece!
Carey was considered a lock to podium in Floor after winning three years ago. Gold was the goal but extenuating circumstances will keep her from even competing in the Finals.
The 24-year-old repeatedly stepped out of bounds during qualifying and finished dead last in the event with a score of 10.633. She also took a nasty spill after bailing out of a double tuck. It was heartbreaking.
Fortunately, Carey was able to rally during the next rotation and secured a spot in the Vault Final!
Even though the day finished on a high note, there were/are a lot of lingering questions about the uncharacteristic Floor Exercise. What happened?!
Carey made the very mature decision to address her shortcomings head-on and blamed the failure on a lingering illness. She has been very sick over the last few days to the point that she hasn’t been able to eat. Her father Brian, an assistant coach for Team USA, was also sick. He missed practice on July 25.
Here is where the Jade Carey mystery lies.
If Carey was/is so sick, why was/is she allowed to be in the gym around other athletes? It is entirely fair to wonder why Team USA would run the risk of infecting her teammates, like Simone Biles and Suni Lee.
Carey’s aunt actually spoke to that specific inquiry in response to the initial BroBible post on Facebook. However, she created even more mystery surrounding her niece’s illness.
Jenna Stark Ory is Carey’s aunt.
Ory felt the need to defend her kin and said that “people don’t know anything about what’s really going on and make mean judgements.” True. She also offered an explanation for why Carey was allowed to be near the team despite the illness.
“If she were contagious she would not be allowed near the team. She has been sick, however. They have the best of the best medical at the Olympics. This is her aunt speaking.”

There is only one issue here.
Team USA has been completely silent about Carey’s condition. It has not offered any explanation beyond what the athlete said for herself. We, the common folk, don’t know what is going on and that leaves room for all kinds of wild speculation. I won’t get into all of the ridiculous theories that are floating around online, but I will point out just one thing.
Ory says that Carey is not contagious and that’s totally fine!
But her dad also missed practice because of the ailment… Hm…
So if this illness is not contagious like Ory claims, how did both father and daughter get sick at the same time? Surely that can’t be a coincidence. What is going on?!
