Fans of the Jacksonville Jaguars haven’t really had a ton to root for during the majority of the franchise’s existence, and it sounds like owner Shad Khan may have finally reached his breaking point after his team got absolutely embarrassed by the Bills on Monday night.
The Jacksonville Jaguars were originally owned by shoe magnate Wayne Weaver when they joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1995, and they found plenty of early success before seeing their fortunes fade around the turn of the millennium.
Fans were obviously hoping the Jaguars would be able to turn things around when Shad Khan purchased the team for $770 million prior to the start of the 2012 season, but that has not really been the case for a franchise that has only punched its ticket to the playoffs two times since it changed hands.
In 2020, the Jaguars reached their lowest point ever by finishing with a 1-15 record a year before they “improved” to 3-14, but they have been trending in the right direction after posting two consecutive 9-8 seasons thanks in no small part to Trevor Lawrence, who was positioned as a top candidate to have a breakout season heading into 2024.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like that’s going to end up being the case based on how he and the Jaguars have looked so far. Jacksonville was able to hang with the Dolphins in a 20-17 loss before falling to the Browns in an 18-13 contest, but they firmly dropped to 0-3 on the season with a 47-10 shellacking at the hands of the Bills in primetime on Monday.
Khan is a pretty well-liked figure in Jacksonville despite the team’s struggles (he was ranked as the third-best owner in the league in a recent NFLPA survey) and is by all accounts a pretty personable guy. However, according to Jaguars beat reporter Demetrius Harvey, he was uncharacteristically apoplectic while watching his team get annihilated by Buffalo.
Someone close to #Jaguars owner Shad Khan to me tonight says this is: “angrier than I have ever seen Shad, He is usually a reserved, kind gentleman. Not tonight.”
Jags posted the sixth-worst loss in franchise history with a 37-point margin.

The Jaguars can take some solace in knowing the undefeated Bills look like one of the best teams in the NFL as things currently stand, but it’s easy to understand why Khan is frustrated with the current state of affairs.
