Jake Paul Vs Gervonta Davis Fight In Jeopardy From Taking Place In Georgia After Massive Weight Difference Called Into Question

Netflix

It appears that Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis will not be taking place in the state of Georgia. Last month, Paul announced that he would be fighting Davis at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

Unfortunately for the boxers, it appears that the Georgia state athletic commission has taken issue with Paul weighing over 50 pounds more than Davis.

On September 8th, Rick Thompson, chairman of the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission (GAEC), blasted the fight as a money grab and voiced his opposition to the fight taking place in Georgia.

“This is the dumbest (expletive) I’ve ever heard. It’s a money grabber, and I’m not OK with that.’’

On Wednesday, USA Today Sports reached out to Thompson, who revealed that Paul’s MVP Promotions had withdrawn their request for event permits and rule waivers required to hold the event in Georgia.

“I believe it’s in the public’s interest to know that because they’ve been promoting something they should not have been,’ Thompson said when reached by USA TODAY Sports.

A press conference was scheduled for Thursday, September 18, at State Farm Arena to promote the fight, but it was called off before the Georgia commission was set to vote on whether or not to allow the fight to take place in the state.

The GAEC commission is scheduled to meet Thursday and was expected to vote on MVP’s requests. MVP needed the votes of three of the five commissioners for approval, and the chairman – one of the five commissioners – adamantly opposed the rule waiver that would have modified restrictions on the allowed weight difference between fighters.

MVP’s Nakisa Bidarian insists that the fight is still on, and not “in jeopardy.”

Florida and Texas, to places where Paul has fought in the past, appear to be the frontrunners to stage Paul vs Davis.

Update: The fight has officially been moved from Atlanta, Georgia to Miami, Florida.
