The Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs have built quite the rivalry over the last few years as they’ve emerged as arguably the two best teams in the AFC when Joe Burrow is healthy. The AFC Championship has been won by these teams the last three years, with the two meeting up in the AFC Championship Game during the 2021 and 2022 seasons

While last year was a lost year in Cincinnati due to Joe Burrow’s injury issues, they are expected by many to challenge the Chiefs this year as they look for a three-peat. Because of that intense rivalry, superstar Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase couldn’t even stomach saying Patrick Mahomes’ name while being interviewed for the NFL Top 100 countdown on NFL Network.

Take a look.

Those are the kind of rivalries that make any sports league better. As long as Joe Burrow stays healthy, they could be on a collision course all year.

At the end of the 2021 season, it was the upstart Cincinnati Bengals who went into Arrowhead Stadium and absolutely stunned the heavily favored Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in overtime in the AFC Championship Game. They went on to lose narrowly to the Rams in Super Bowl LVI.

The next season, it was the Chiefs who came out victorious in a controversial game, getting a key pass interference call to set up the game-winning field goal.

Last year was a lost year for the Bengals, but this year likely won’t be. I think everyone is looking forward to their Week 2 matchup in Kansas City and a potential playoff matchup.
