Fans of Jameis Winston’s famed goofball antics are in for a treat during Super Bowl week as Fox Sports has announced that the 31-year-old free agent quarterback will be joining the broadcast team as a “digital correspondent.” The Super Bowl is being played in New Orleans, where Winston spent three years as a backup and thus as first-hand knowledge of the city.

According to Fox Sports, Jameis Winston will visit several of his favorite “go-to spots” in New Orleans — where he played as a backup quarterback for the Saints from 2020 to 2023 — in a series of digital videos to be released in the lead up to the big game.

It certainly seems like Fox Sports will be fully leaning into Winston’s well-known goofball personality, as their official statement announcing the hire promised “sure-to-be memeable antics.”

“Jameis Winston, the walking, talking soundbite of the NFL world, is headed to the Super Bowl. Not as a quarterback, though. Instead, Winston will be a FOX Sports digital correspondent for Super Bowl LIX,” Fox Sports announced in a press release on Wednesday, January 29.

“Winston will return to New Orleans, where he played for the Saints from 2020-23. Throughout Super Bowl Week, Winston will take fans through a tour of the Big Easy in a series of digital videos as he visits several of his favorite go-to spots. With his sure-to-be memeable antics, Winston will have fans eating W’s all week long, all the way through the Super Bowl showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, airing on FOX.”

Given that Winston once famously stole crab legs from a Publix in Tallahassee, it’ll be interesting to see whether or not the Fox Sports team films in segment in which he indulges in a traditional New Orleans crawfish boil. Maybe they’ll opt to let sleeping dogs lie. Or sleeping crabs, rather.
