England loves their soccer, and the entire country seemingly shuts down when the England National Team plays important matches. Actor/television host/comedian James Corden proved just how deep that obsession goes.

Corden wrote a play, called, “The Constituent,” that he also stars in. The play, which debuted in May in London, is about the relationship between a disaffected voter and a politician in the UK.

The play is currently at the Old Victoria Theatre in London, and had a show Saturday evening. Curtains up would’ve been well after the end of the match, but England’s EURO’s quarterfinal match against Switzerland went into extra time and then into penalties

That meant that either the crew and the crowd, who were surely streaming the action on their phone, was going to miss the shootout or the play needed to be delayed. And, James Corden made the decision to delay the play, watching the penalties live from the stage. Take a look.

The former Late Late Show with James Corden host left the show last year to spend more time with his family, and was replaced by Taylor Tomlinson.
