  • Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden has declined his $47.4 million player option.
  • However, Harden isn’t leaving the team.
  • Instead, he plans to sign a more team-friendly deal.

The Philadelphia 76ers are planning on bringing back superstar guard James Harden. And, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Harden has shockingly turned down his $47.4 million option with the team. However, he does plan on re-signing with the 76ers on a different deal to give them more financial flexibility.

This is a stunning move by Harden, who had an opportunity to pick up his option and be one of the highest-paid players in the NBA.

But, as Charania points out, he wants the 76ers to have more financial flexibility.

This massive move by Harden should give Philadelphia more room to work with once free agency begins.

Russell Westbrook picked up his option with the Los Angeles Lakers. Kyrie Irving also picked up his with the Brooklyn Nets.

But Harden decides to decline and give his team more cap space to work with in a stunning decision.

Of course, 76ers fans were thrilled with Harden’s decision.

What the 76ers decide to do now remains to be seen, but this is a step in the right direction. More than that, this is a massive surprise for somebody who has repeatedly been called selfish during his NBA career.
