James McCann is tough as nails. The Baltimore Orioles catcher was hit in the face with a pitch Monday during a game against the Blue Jays.

The 95-mph fastball put him down momentarily, but it wouldn’t be enough to get him out of the contest.

McCann stepped into the batter’s box with the bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning. He immediately took a Yariel Rodriguez delivery off the nose, resulting in an RBI.

The pitch sent him tumbling to the ground as blood streamed down his face.

Rather than exit, as many would in the same situation, he got patched up and made his way to first base. He stayed in the game!

After getting some treatment, a bandage on his nose, and a new jersey, McCann continued to play. That decision stunned the broadcast crew, as well as most viewers, but it was clear he wasn’t letting anything remove him from the action.

The icing on the cake was a fifth inning single that would set up a sacrifice fly. James McCann definitely has that dawg in him!

He’d later come around to score himself on a home run by teammate Anthony Santander, helping the Orioles land an 11-5 victory over their AL East rivals.

McCann finished 1-3 at the dish on the day with an RBI. He also played backstop for all nine frames after that first inning hit by pitch.

Though he could barely open his left eye in the postgame celebration, he reiterated his desire to finish out the contest while speaking with the media.

They don’t make ’em much tougher than that!
