The LSU Tigers took two of three games from SEC rival Tennessee in what was a highly contested college baseball set. On Friday night, the home team provided fireworks in the form of a walk-off home run.
LSU trailed 3-0 heading into the ninth inning following a lengthy rain delay. Those that stayed in Alex Box Stadium to watch the final at-bat left happy.
The Tigers scored six runs in the bottom of the frame to leave with a Game 1 victory. First baseman Jared Jones was the hero after launching the game-winning home run.

Jones turned on a 1-2 pitch from Tennessee pitcher Nate Snead, sending it sailing over the batter’s eye in centerfield. It was an absolute no-doubter, and Jones knew it.
He admired the moonshot, taking his time to watch it travel deep into the abyss before making his way to first base. Video of that celebratory stroll surfaced a few days after the homer.

In the video, the umpire is seen coming out from his position beyond home plate to instruct Jared Jones to run the bases. The slugger refused to follow those demands.
Instead, he turned back towards the umpire and provided a two-word response. “It’s over,” he told the blue. There was nothing that was going stop him from enjoying the moment.
“Once I hit it, I knew it was gone. I kind of told the umpire that the game was over and started my trot… He told me to get going and I just kind of was like, ‘Man, the game’s over. I’ll take my time.’

After taking Game 1, the Tigers and Vols split the remaining contests. LSU won the series, 2-1, to improve to 36-9 on the season.
Friday’s fireworks weren’t the only ones provided by Jones, who was seen in numerous verbal altercations with Tennessee’s Ariel Antigua over the weekend. Those tensions were held in check for the most part, though emotions were clearly at a high throughout the weekend.

Jared Jones and the Tigers got the last laugh with the wins on Friday and Sunday. They were able to jump the Vols in the SEC standings with the series victory.
