LSU sophomore Jayden Heavener is one of the best pitchers in college softball. She is also one of the most animated players in the country.

Her latest antics are subject to widespread criticism.

The second-year college softball ace threw a gem against South Carolina over the weekend (twice) and she did not hold back her reaction. Heavener got cocky and later paid the price.

Who is Jayden Heavener?

As a native of Florida, Heavener led Pace High School to victory at the Florida 6A State Championship in 2024. Her dominance in the circle led her to be named as the Florida Gatorade Player of the Year as well as the Max Preps National Player of the Year as a senior.

Although she could’ve gone on to play anywhere as the No. 2-ranked recruit in the country, she chose LSU.

Jayden Heavener immediately made history in her debut for the Bayou Bengals. The 5-foot-6 lefty threw 13 strikeouts to complete a perfect game during the first game of her collegiate career.

Heavener ultimately finished with an overall record of 13-5 as a true freshman with a 2.75 ERA behind 152 strikeouts in 119.2 innings pitched. She also set the program record for fewest hits allowed in a season and threw 11 complete games with five shutouts. No big deal.

The 2025-26 season is off to an equally strong start.

LSU currently ranks No. 15 in college softball. Its most dominant pitcher, Heavener, holds a 2.79 ERA with 68 strikeouts in 77.2 innings pitched with a record of 7-6. You’d like to see her get more wins but that also requires the offense to rally around her. The Tigers cannot ask for much better from their ace!

LSU’s star pitcher talks the most trash in college softball.

Part of what makes Jayden Heavener so dominant is her approach. She chooses violence, in a good way.

You’re going to hear it if you’re on the other end of strikeout. Double zeros is going to give it to you.

However, her most recent behavior has been labeled by critics as “classless” and “obnoxious.”

Heavener recorded a strikeout during the third game of a three-game series against South Carolina for the first out of the game. She shooed away the hitter and barked in her direction.

It actually appeared as though she was mimicking the opposing coach from the half inning prior.

Her wave was on Sunday after the Gamecocks handed her a loss during the first game of the series on Friday. It was also the first out of the first inning. There was still a lot of ball left to be played.

Heavener backed up her trash talk with a one-run complete game performance and LSU went on to win by a final score of 2-1. That did not help to change the opinion of critics. They don’t like her wave. They would prefer she turn her back to the hitter and walk back into the circle.

Do you agree? Or should she continue to talk her talk? Let me know at Grayson@brobible.com!
