Did Yankees Star Jazz Chisholm Really Make An Albatross With A Range Ball He Drove Over 325 Yards? Here’s Why Some People Are Suspicious

Baseball is obviously the primary focus for the MLB players who are currently gearing up for the regular season. That includes Jazz Chisholm Jr., the Yankees infielder who claimed he recorded an albatross on a par-5 while golfing in Arizona but was greeted with plenty of skepticism thanks to the circumstances surrounding that supposed feat.

There are plenty of professional athletes who don’t play golf for a living but have been able to harness their natural athleticism, hand-eye coordination, and other aspects of their skill set to carve out a very solid game on the course.

That includes a number of MLB players who can more than hold their own when they hit the links.

Interestingly enough, pitchers seem to be the most accomplished golfers; John Smoltz was almost able to secure a PGA Champions Tour card a few years ago, Rick Rhoden boasts the record for the most victories at the American Century Championship, and Mark Mulder has three of his own at the tournament.

However, the mechanics that allow batters to send baseballs flying hundreds of feet in the air can also come in handy when you’re trying to crush a golf ball hundreds of yards, which is what Jazz Chisholm asserted he was able to do while overcoming a disadvantage en route to achieving a pretty rare feat.

Jazz Chisholm claimed he made an albatross on a par-5, but some people are skeptical

Chisholm is one of the MLB players who will be partaking in the World Baseball Classic, as the Nassau native is one of six guys who hail from the Bahamas who exercised their option to play for Great Britain at the international tournament in 2026.

His squad was scheduled to play a friendly game against the Brewers in Phoenix on March 3rd, and he decided to get some golf in prior to that showdown by heading to Phoenician Golf Club in Scottsdale for a round.

On Monday, he posted a clip that he filmed after stepping up to the tee box on the par-5 8th, as he excitedly claimed he had managed to score an albatross (which he erroneously referred to as a “double eagle”) by sinking his second shot from around 170 yards out after driving the ball 328 yards.

A number of outlets incorrectly said he’d made a hole-in-one off the tee while covering the video where he filmed himself rolling up to the green and plucking what appeared to be a Callaway range ball out of the cup after a witness confirmed  he saw the shot roll in.

Chisholm’s achievement was greeted with a fair amount of skepticism from some doubters who pointed to the practice ball as a smoking gun while asserting there was no way he could have driven it as far as he said he did. However, I don’t think it’s out of the question when you take a look at the somewhat unorthodox swing that still looks like it would generate plenty of power.

There was also one Reddit user with knowledge of the hole in question who added an interesting wrinkle by noting the hole’s proximity to the driving range means the fairway is routinely covered in practice balls like the one in question. They asserted there was a chance the ball Chisholm hit wasn’t actually the one he drove and noted he could have also been pranked by the group in front while hitting into what was positioned as a blind green.

I personally don’t have any reason to believe Chisholm was lying, but I’d let you come to your own conclusion.
