This dissolution of their marriage has come with an awkward caveat, as Ben Affleck’s company Artists Equity is producing both of Jennifer Lopez’s next two movies.
The first of those two films, Unstoppable, sees Jennifer Lopez portraying the mother of one-legged NCAA champion wrestler Anthony Robles. Unstoppable will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
Despite being one of the producers of the film, Ben Affleck will not be attending the premiere, according to reports. Who will be in attendance, however, is Affleck’s best friend Matt Damon, with whom he co-founded Artists Equity.
“Sources tell PEOPLE that Lopez, 55, who has a supporting role in the film, plans to attend the September event in person, while Affleck, 52, one of the film’s producers, will be absent from the festival’s red carpet. His friend Matt Damon, 53, who also produced, will be present.”
Earlier this summer, it was reported that Damon “warned” his pal Ben Affleck about reuniting with Lopez, apparently feeling as though their marriage would end the same way their relationship did 20 years ago.
“Matt tried to warn Ben when he got back together with J. Lo that this could happen. Matt was there to help Ben get it together after their first split and he felt like this would happen again,” an inside source allegedly told Daily Mail in late June.
In addition to Lopez, Unstoppable stars Jharrel Jerome in the lead role of Anthony Robles alongside Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, and Don Cheadle, and was directed by William Goldenberg.
Artists Equity is also producing the upcoming remake of Kiss of the Spider Woman which is set to star Lopez.
Affleck and Lopez officially filed for divorce on August 20, 2024, ending their marriage that began in July 2022. The A-list couple previously dated in the early 2000s before reuniting in 2021. Somewhat surprisingly, reports indicate that the pair did not sign a pre-nuptial agreement.
