Did Jeremy Fears Commit Dirty Groin Kick? Michigan Fans Berate Basketball Star For Another Technical Foul

Michigan State star Jeremy Fears has something of a history with dirty behavior. He is one of the best players in college basketball but he can’t stop kicking people in the groin.

One was pretty clearly intentional. The second was questionable. As was the third.

I actually think Fears appeared to swing his leg up in an attempt to gain balance but his history impedes impartial judgement. I would fully believe that he did give an extra effort to catch Elliot Cadeau where the sun does not shine. I don’t know! The college basketball officials gave him a technical either way.

Jeremy Fears has a history of dirty behavior.

Fears averages 15.3 points, 9.1 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game for the No. 8-ranked Spartans. It is his third season with the program in an era of the game where athletes of his status (4-star recruit) rarely learn and grow in one place. He is one of the best point guards in the country.

Unfortunately, his reputation precedes him. A large number of college basketball fans consider him to be a dirty player. I’ve seen a lot of people refer to him as the new Grayson Allen. Take that for what it’s worth.

Here is a CBS montage of Fears’ shenanigans from the last few weeks alone. This clip aired during an official review for a different kick between the legs of an opponent against Ohio State on Feb. 22. (The second such incident!!) They gave him a pass against the Buckeyes.

The montage does not include this (and others I’m sure):

These things happen far too often. The referees have to consider his previous exploits when they make a ruling.

Michigan State basketball’s leading scorer kicked Elliot Cadeau.

The latest incident took place on Sunday at Michigan. Wolverines fans expected it to get nutty and they were right.

Jeremy Fears kicked Elliot Cadeau directly in the almonds.

Officials issued a contact dead ball technical foul upon further review. The student section was not kind to Fears.

It reminds me of that Moneyball meme. “Billy, this is Michigan State sophomore Jeremy Fears. He is one of the most prolific scorers in college basketball but he can’t stop kicking people in the [word that rhymes with slick].”

(I can’t write it out or I’ll get in trouble with Google.)

I have no problem with the technical foul call. Fears needs to stop doing this. However, I think he was genuinely trying to get his balance on this one. I would’ve called it against Ohio State but not here.
