We all know that rich people love themselves, a lot. And, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones putting a hologram of himself inside AT&T Stadium ahead of the NFL season.
It’s not as if Jerry Jones doesn’t have accomplishments. He’s one of the most decorated owners in NFL history.
Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys for $140 million in one of the greatest sports business decisions ever. The team is now worth a remarkable $9.2 billion now as the world’s most valuable sports franchise.
And, even though it may not be recent, Jerry Jones and the team have had success. The team won three Super Bowls in four years, XXVII, XXVIII, XXX, and was arguably the NFL’s best team during the 1990s.
Since then, things haven’t been going quite as swimmingly. The team has won just four playoff games since 1996, having never advanced to the NFC Championship Game in that time frame.
He’s the rare owner that is also the team’s general manager, a position he has held since he bought the team. This has led to Cowboys fans to rightfully blame him for the lack of playoff success over the last 25 years, as he is the one making a good bulk of the personnel and hiring decisions.
The crown jewel of his tenure might be the luxurious AT&T Stadium, nicknamed “JerryWorld”. The stadium, which opened in 2009 at a cost of $1.3 billion, was state of the art when it was opened, and still is considered one of the greatest sports stadiums anywhere in the world. It’s not just a Cowboys venue, either. It holds huge events all throughout the year, and every major musical act wants to play there.
But, maybe he shouldn’t have let those Super Bowls and that great stadium get to his head, because putting in a hologram of yourself in the stadium is pretty corny.
