Following their backbreaking loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football to drop their record to 2-4, the New York Jets have made a splashy acquisition by trading for Pro Bowl wide receiver Davante Adams.

Davante Adams, of course, is an old pal of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, as the pair played together in Green Bay from 2014 to 2021, forming one of the most dominant QB-WR duos in modern NFL history.

Adams now marks the sixth former Green Bay Packer that the Jets have brought in since April 2023, and virtually none of them have meaningfully contributed, Rodgers included. Last year, in addition to Rodgers, the Jets also brought in wide receivers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, backup quarterback Tim Boyle, and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.

Hackett has been nothing short of a disaster, as he was demoted and stripped of his play-calling duties after just five games this season. Cobb is now retired, and Boyle is on the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad.

As for Lazard, while the 28-year-old pass catcher has improved this season, he was so poor last year that Jets fans were calling the five-year, $44 million deal they gave him one of the worst contracts in the history of the franchise.

Now, Adams is obviously a different animal than all of those aforementioned pieces as the 31 year old is considered to be one of the best wide receivers of his generation and still looked like his dominant self with the Raiders last year despite chaos at the quarterback position (103 catches for 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns).

On paper, the duo of Adams and third-year wideout Garrett Wilson should form one of the most dangerous pass-catching pairs in the league. The Jets offense, however, hasn’t shown a consistent ability to get the most out of its best players, so it’s unclear exactly what impact Adams will have on the team’s ability to win games.
