The New York Jets’ 2024 season was officially taken out behind the shed on Sunday as they fell to 2-6 with a loss to the lowly New England Patriots, all but officially ending their hopes of making the playoffs for the first time since 2010.
In their 25-22 loss to the Patriots, the Jets put up more than 20 points, didn’t commit any turnovers, and held their opponent to under 250 yards of offense. Since 1940, teams to do that were undefeated with a record of 756-0.
Then came Aaron Rodgers and the 2024 Jets. That record now sits at 756-1.
The Jets scored 20+ points, committed 0 turnovers, and held their opponent to under 250 yards of offense.
From 1940 until yesterday, teams were 756-0 when they hit those three metrics.
But the Jets lost to New England today, 25-22.

The Jets don’t have very long to lick their wounds as they’ll be hosting CJ Stroud and the 6-2 Houston Texans on Thursday.
“I’ve been in the darkness. You’ve gotta go in there and make peace with it,” Rodgers told the media after the loss, in which he completed 17 of 28 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns.
In addition to taking on the Texans on Halloween night, the Jets have games against the Arizona Cardinals, Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks, Miami Dolphins (twice), Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams, and Buffalo Bills remaining on their schedule.
Since trading for Rodgers in April 2023, the Jets have just two wins (over the Patriots and Titans) and zero memorable moments to show for it. Following the conclusion of the 2024 season, the general consensus seems to be that Rodgers is going to retire and the Jets are going to blow up the team as their American professional sports-leading 14-year-long playoff drought continues.
