New York Jets Staff Reportedly Believe Abysmal Owner Woody Johnson Will Re-Join The Trump Admin

Given that he’s currently overseeing the longest active playoff drought in the four major American sports leagues (13 years and counting), New York Jets owner Woody Johnson is widely considered to be one of the worst owners in all of professional sports.

Luckily for New York Jets fans, however, they may soon be getting a reprieve from Woody Johnson and his erratic decision-making — i.e. the firing of head coach Robert Saleh after just five games this season — as reports indicate he may re-join the incoming Trump administration.

During Trump’s first term from 2017 to 2021, Johnson served as the administration’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, leaving him to cede control of the Jets to his brother Christopher Johnson.

Some employees within the Jets building now believe Johnson will return to the Trump administration for the second go around.

“No one knows if Trump will give Johnson a second appointment, but many people inside the Jets have believed for months that there was a strong possibility Johnson would depart again if Trump returned to the White House. A team spokesman declined to comment.” [via New York Post]

The bad news for long-tortured Jets fans is that the last time Christopher Johnson served as chairman and CEO from 2017 to 2021, it was more of the same for the franchise, as they never won more than 7 games in any of his seasons in charge.

Woody Johnson bought the Jets in January 2000 and within weeks of owning the team, saw Bill Belichick walk out the door as head coach. In his 24 years as team owner, the Jets have won the AFC East just once (in 2002), and have qualified for the playoffs just six times.
