Aaron Rodgers trip to Egypt during the week of mandatory minicamp is no big deal, according to the Jets themselves.

According to a reporter from New York Jets beat writer Connor Hughes at SNY, the Jets were “aware” of Rodgers’ trip to Africa and is “not concerned about his absence.”

Furthermore, Hughes reports that multiple Jets players reached out to express that they had “zero issues” with Rodgers missing the late June minicamp, highlighting the fact that he had strong attendance during the voluntary portion earlier in the offseason.

“The Jets were made aware of the trip when the official minicamp dates were announced (June 11, 12) and overlapped with Rodgers’ plans. While an unexcused absence, the team is not concerned, sources told SNY, that this will impact Rodgers’ season.”

“As one source put it: Rodgers’ absence during the two-day minicamp will not impact the Jets’ season whatsoever. Multiple players SNY touched base with had zero issue with Rodgers missing minicamp, all pointing towards his attendance during the voluntary portion.”

Given that the Jets’ hopes of a successful season hinge on Rodgers and the health of his 40-year-old, recently torn Achilles, it’s not all that surprising that his teammates have his back. However, should the Jets get off to a slow start and the reality of Aaron Rodgers overtake the hypothetical of him, then those same teammates might not be as willing to come to his defense.

In the last two seasons of his career, Rodgers failed to make the playoffs with the Green Bay Packers and tore his Achilles after just four snaps with the Jets. Sooner than later, the four-time MVP will have to start bringing something to the table for the team other than his legacy.

Rodgers and the Jets’ first game of the 2024 season will be a Monday Night Football matchup against the San Francisco 49ers on September 9.
