New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is in what is almost certainly the final year of a mostly disastrous tenure after the New York Giants reached for him with the 6th-overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. A fringe first-round prospect never developed into anything resembling an NFL-caliber passer in his time in the league.

Despite that, the New York Giants gave him a monster 4-year, $160 million contract with the first two years of the deal, $92 million overall,  guaranteed after a 2022 season that saw the Giants sneak into the playoffs and win a playoff game before getting blown out by the Philadelphia Eagles. Nobody ever seriously thought he would play anywhere close to the level needed to deserve that kind of contract, and Jets superstar corner Sauce Gardner made it clear that he’s not buying it either following a joint practice involving the two teams.

The Jets and Giants teamed up for a joint practice Wednesday and Sauce Gardner was asked what he thought about Daniel Jones as a quarterback. Let’s just say it was not a ringing endorsement. Take a listen.

Sauce Gardner can barely hold back laughter. And, who can blame him? Daniel Jones is not any good.

Let’s put that contract into perspective. Daniel Jones got that much money for a season in which he threw fifteen touchdown passes. A ton of quarterbacks have had five-game stretches that had that many touchdown passes. He got $160 million for a season with fifteen. He hasn’t thrown more than fifteen touchdowns in a season since 2019, when he threw 24 against 12 interceptions.

Last year, he was 1-5 in starts with 2 touchdowns against 6 picks as the Giants repeatedly got drilled when he was in the lineup. An injury to his neck and then an ACL tear limited to only those six games.

Next year is essentially a void year for his contract, and most Giants fans can’t wait. Maybe they will get a quarterback Sauce Gardner doesn’t want to laugh at.
