Jett Thomalla was going to stay committed to Iowa State when he went to sleep on Monday night. The four-star quarterback flipped his commitment to play college football at Alabama on Tuesday morning.

It was a surprising decision that immediately proved to be a huge get for the Crimson Tide as he threw darts at the Elite 11.

Thomalla, ranked as the No. 15 player at his position in the college football recruiting Class of 2026, received 12 different offers from schools like Arizona, Iowa, Virginia Tech, Duke, Washington State, Colorado State and UNLV. He committed to play at Iowa State in April out of the state of Nebraska. However, Alabama presented him with an offer on May 15 that changed his entire recruitment. There was no way for him to pass on an opportunity to play for one of the sport’s biggest brands and head coach Kalen DeBoer, who has a history of developing NFL quarterbacks.

The gut feeling was too strong for Thomalla to ignore, even though he told Cyclones quarterbacks coach Jake Waters of his plans to stay committed as of 12 hours prior to his decommitment. The Crimson Tide ultimately lured him away.

That was on Tuesday morning. Elite 11 began later that afternoon. Jett Thomalla was dealing throughout the entire high school quarterback competition.

The juice in his arm makes him one of the fastest-rising prospects in his class.

He can really chuck it!

Thomalla can improve mechanically but his size, arm strength and athleticism are a great foundation. There is a lot on which to build. Alabama is thrilled to have him.

In terms of size, Jett Thomalla stands 6-foot-3.5, 205 pounds. It is an ideal frame.

In terms of arm strength, you already saw him rip it and grip it. In terms of athleticism, Thomalla can really move for someone of his stature. He also plays basketball for Millard South High School and threw down enough in-game dunks to build a full 30-second highlight reel. He can jam with one or two hands!

Jett Thomalla is the exact right fit for DeBoer, Ryan Grubb and their high-tempo system. It would be a stretch to compare him to Michael Penix Jr. but they have a similar level of athleticism and arm strength. And with the quarterback room in Tuscaloosa already filled to the brim, this gives him time to develop. This flip could be one of the biggest moves in the modern era of college football when it is all said and done! Remember the name.
