Jett Washington, the nephew of late NBA star Kobe Bryant, proved once again why he is one of the top high school football players in the college football recruiting Class of 2026. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound safety sent a young man into the shadow realm with a huge hit on Saturday.

Unfortunately, the receiver held onto the ball and a flag was thrown…

Washington is a junior at perennial high school football powerhouse Bishop Gorman in Nevada. His mother, Sharia, is the oldest sister of the Los Angeles Lakers legend. She played volleyball at Temple and her husband led Virginia in rushing as a senior running back in 1993 so athleticism is in their blood.

Their son is a two-sport star in his own right! Washington at one point thought his future was on the hardwood. He also starts for the Gaels’ basketball team, but has yet to receive a scholarship offer.

As a result, Washington is likely going to play football on the next level.

The four-star recruit is zeroed-in on Alabama, Oregon, Texas, and Michigan, among others — but there is still a long way to go between now and a commitment. Notre Dame is also of interest because of how the program has used large safeties in the past, namely Kyle Hamilton.

In the meantime, Washington is off to a tremendous start in 2025!

He hit the ‘Night Night’ celebration after a game-sealing pick last week.

He followed it up by laying the BOOM in Week 2. Straight-up slobberknocker.

It is a penalty to hit a defenseless receiver on the high school level, even if it’s a clean hit. So Jett Washington was called for penalty.

Still, Kobe Byrant’s nephew sent a message. You don’t want to meet him in the open field!

No. 2-ranked Bishop Gorman moved to 2-0 on the year with a win over No. 5 St. Thomas Aquinas. It will play No. 1 Mater Dei on Sept. 6… Get your popcorn ready!
