Jhonattan Vegas hit the most improbable shot of the 3M Open on Sunday as he looked to finish out his final round. Leading the tournament at the time of that tee shot, he ran into a difficult situation at the 12th hole.

Vegas’s ball landed in the arm of a police officer alongside the course. What are the odds?!

Vegas entered the day at -16 on the weekend and in sole possession of first place. Hungry for his first win since 2017, he looked to remain atop the standings with a solid final round.

“My game is starting to feel good. The game I know I can play,” he said to Amanda Balonis on Saturday. “It’s coming back.”

Midway through his fourth round, he ran into some turbulence potentially putting that victory pursuit in jeopardy.

Jhonattan Vegas hit a police officer with a wayward shot from the tee, leading to a comical exchange.

Vegas eventually played his ball off a drop and saved par to stay at -16.

While the interaction in this case was lighthearted, it’s not the first time a police officer has made headlines on the PGA Tour. Earlier this year, Scottie Scheffler was arrested while trying to make his way to Valhalla Golf Club at the PGA Championship.

Followers immediately referenced the arrest while commenting on Vegas’s tee shot. Everyone had the same joke!

“This is Scottie’s worst nightmare.”

“Scheffler would already be in cuffs.”

Charges against Scheffler were eventually dropped, though it presented an undesired distraction for the golfer at the PGA Championship. Jhonattan Vegas found himself in a much more enjoyable situation with this police officer on Sunday.
