Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh signed a 5-year contract back in February guaranteeing him over $7 million annually through 2026. This came after Harbaugh flirted heavily with a return to coaching in the NFL where he saw considerable success (2011 NFL Coach of the Year) with the 49ers.

Harbaugh addressed those NFL flirtations in a Spring football press conference and basically said he’s closed the door on any possible return to the NFL. Case closed, right? Nooooope.

After the ‘will he, won’t he’ saga that Jim Harbaugh put fans through over the past several months it’s going to take more than a few comments to convince Michigan fans he’s here to stay. Many of those fans were quick to chime in with comments about how Harbaugh might not be considering the NFL right now. But as one commenter (/u/sokuyari97) said, “But I know how to use doorknobs so that shit doesn’t need to stay closed forever.”

Jim Harbaugh Says He Won’t Revisit Coaching In The NFL Ever Again But Nobody Believes Him

Here are the four and a half minutes from the press conference I found on YouTube with some of Jim Harbaugh’s comments below:

Harbaugh told reporters “Ultimately, I decided this is where I wanted to be, and really, a lot of gratitude for that.”

When asked about a possible return to the NFL in the future…

Jim Harbaugh: “I came here in January of 2015 and signed a 7-year deal. The seven years was up. And that’s what precipitated to see if that’s something that I wanted to do or take a look at it.”

Reporter: “What was the (NFL interview) process like for you?”

Jim Harbaugh: “Ultimately, I decided this is where I wanted to be, and really, a lot of gratitude for that. Like I said earlier, this is scary good. You try to define what that is. You know the law of averages is going to catch up to you at some point, but that’s the place where you want to be.”

“Like always, I walk around our field and whether it’s the weight room or out there with the guys, coaches and players, people that are engaged. Players come up to you and got a smile on their face with ‘what’s up coach, we got today?’ it just makes the days fly by. So we’re having a blast.”

Does anyone believe Harbaugh is in Michigan to stay this time?

One of the responses I’m frequently seeing to these latest comments from Jim Harbaugh is “it’s a revolving door” as in the door never shuts, it only spins in circles.

Over on Reddit, most of the ‘revolving door’ comments are coming from Redditors with Ohio State Buckeyes flair. Others commented things like “Lol save this thread for next January for a good laugh.” and Yup never hearing this one again boys. Gotta feel good that we can finally put offseason NFL rumors to rest /s.”

Someone chimed in with “Press X to doubt” and another added “Until next January.”

The only people that seem even slightly convinced that Jim Harbaugh’s NFL days are over are the fans that believe the NFL does not want Harbaugh as a coach.
