Texas has officially cemented its status as Texas A&M’s “big brother” after reportedly swiping the Aggies‘ head baseball coach from College Station. The news comes less than 24 hours after TAMU’s season ended in the College World Series Final.

It also made Jim Schlossnagle appear extremely hypocritical given his recent comments on his future with the program.

The Aggies ran through the NCAA Tournament, going a perfect 8-0 before meeting Tennessee in the Finals series. After winning Game 1, the program was just one victory away from securing its first national championship.

Unfortunately, they’d lose back-to-back contests to finish runners-up while watching the Vols celebrate in Omaha.

That was apparently just the beginning of the suffering for fans in College Station.

Rumors began to circulate on Monday regarding head coach Jim Schlossnagle’s future when he was linked to an opening at rival Texas. The Longhorns fired David Pierce earlier that day, stealing the Aggies’ CWS spotlight with the timing of the announcement.

Schlossnagle’s success in the Lone Star State is well-documented. He led TCU to five College World Series appearances before taking Texas A&M to the national title series.

That being said, many expected him to be a top Longhorns target given the prominence of the university’s college baseball program.

Schlossnagle was asked about his interest in the ‘Horns immediately after that season-ending loss to Tennessee on Monday. He responded by ripping the reporter while detailing his loyalties to the Aggies.

“I think it’s pretty selfish of you to ask me that question. I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again. That hasn’t changed my mind.”

The head coach’s comments rang hollow come Tuesday.

Jim Schlossnagle will reportedly accept the Texas job.

Chip Brown of 24/7 Sports broke the news less than 24 hours after that emphatic press conference.

From Horns 247:

One day after leading Texas A&M to a runner-up finish in the College World Series, Jim Schlossnagle is leaving College Station to become the new baseball coach at Texas, sources told Horns247.com.

The sources said Schlossnagle plans to bring his coaching staff with him to Austin.

The Aggie Faithful immediately melted down.

Texas A&M bailed on the Big XII in hopes of leaving the Longhorns’ shadow. Unfortunately, they can’t escape!

After the Aggies’ best season in program history, they’ve still succumbed to the brand that is Texas. Making matters worse, Schlossnagle is expected to take his entire staff with him – and who knows how the roster could be affected by the movement.

The icing on the cake? Texas A&M will now line up against their soon-to-be former head coach with the Longhorns joining the SEC next season.

Absolutely brutal.
