Texas A&M baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle was not happy in his postgame presser following a season ending loss to Tennessee. His reaction had little to do with the result of a decisive College World Series matchup, and more to do with speculation regarding his future.

The coach was linked to a recently opened Texas job as he prepped for Game 3 of the CWS Final. Though the Aggies were getting set to compete for a national title, a different storyline surrounding the program was being talked about due to the actions of a hated rival.

The Longhorns fired David Pierce yesterday after eight seasons at the helm. Given the prominence the program boasts nationally, many expect a home run hire to be announced when the team names a replacement.

Schlossnagle would certainly fit the mold.

After leading the TCU Horned Frogs to five College World Series appearances in his 16-year stint in Fort Worth, he took over in College Station.

In his most recent campaign, he fell just one game shy of a national title.

Texas A&M ran through the field in Omaha to make the CWS final. After winning Game 1 of a three-game set, the Ags fell to Tennessee in back-to-back games to lose the series.

Rather than speak on the present, he was asked a question about his future. He wasn’t happy.

Jim Schlossnagle blasted a reporter gauging his Texas interest.

“I think it’s pretty selfish of you to ask me that question,” the head coach responded. “I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again. That hasn’t changed my mind.

“That’s unfair to talk about something like that. That would be like you asking [Braden] Montgomery if he’s going to sign in the draft. I understand you’ve got to ask the question, but I gave up a big part of my life to take this job, and I poured every ounce of my soul in this job, and I gave this job every ounce I could possibly give. Write that.”

The question was asked due to online whispers that Jim Schlossnagle would be a top target in the Longhorns’ coaching search. His ties to Texas AD Chris Del Conte, who was an AD at TCU when Schlossnagle was in Fort Worth, only fueled the fire.

It doesn’t seem he’s got much interest in rejoining his former boss in Austin. For now, the focus is on the Aggies after that painful season ending defeat.
