Jimbo Fisher Proves Irony Is Dead With New Comments On NIL And Tampering

Perhaps no coach in the modern era of college football is more associated with NIL and (alleged) tampering than former Texas A&M and Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher.

Fisher’s 2022 recruiting class at Texas A&M, which has since largely fallen apart, is the stuff of legends thanks to the amount of NIL investment the Aggies made.

But either irony is dead, or Fisher just doesn’t have a good grasp on it. Because the currently unemployed head coach went on SiriusXM on Friday and bemoaned the effects of NIL and tampering on the current state of college football.

Jimbo Fisher Rails Against NIL And Tampering In College Football

“College football is — I complain about it, it’s still the greatest game. As much as I love NFL, and I’m crazy about it, and I respect it, but college football, man, you don’t know — 18, 22 teams, you don’t know what you’re going to get. I mean, it’s still so — I love college basketball, all those things, I love all college sports, but college football man, we need a commissioner,” Fisher said. “We need revenue sharing. We need a salary cap, for all schools, and if you’re caught — and the other part of this, the tampering that other schools do with players, is utterly ridiculous.”

That’s when things went way off the rails.

“I mean, the big schools are going and getting players constantly from other schools, and it’s being done illegally,” he continued. “Those guys are developing players, and all of a sudden their guys, you know, that team shouldn’t have an advantage, financially, to be able to take care of a guy that another school doesn’t, and it’s wrong.”

Now look, Fisher makes some good points.

College sports badly need a sanctioning body with some actual power behind it. The NCAA is cooked an everybody knows it. Nobody follows rules because nobody fears facing any actual repercussions.

But Fisher is about the most flawed messenger you could possibly find, and fans couldn’t help but laugh.

Speak your truth, Jimbo! And don’t let anybody stop you!
