The United States of America is in mourning on Sunday. Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, died on Sunday at the age 100.

Carter died peacefully at his home in Plains, Georgia leaving us with five living presidents, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden.

While Carter’s legacy as a president is pretty mixed, often placing in the bottom-half of historians’ rankings of presidencies, he was lauded for his humanitarian work that continued well into 90’s, notably with Habitat for Humanity. But, in recent years, Carter had become a meme for his longevity. He was placed in hospice care nearly two years ago, typically a sign that the end is imminent. But, he hung on for 22 months, becoming the first former POTUS to live to 100.

Many large publications, such as network television stations and papers of record like the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and New York Times, will often have pre-written obituaries for newsworthy figures that are advancing in age, so as to have them ready to publish immediately after passing away.

That was the case for Jimmy Carter, obviously, as a former POTUS is certainly newsworthy. The New York Times had his obituary online shortly after news of his death started to circulate.

Here’s what’s wild, though. Jimmy Carter actually outlived one of the people that wrote his obituary by seven years!

Jimmy Carter truly lived a full life. May he rest in peace.
