Former Colorado QB and current college football analyst Joel Klatt is hoping to see a permanent change to the College Football Playoff. More specifically, he references the current scheduling process.

We’ve seen national championship games played on Mondays in recent years as college football looks to avoid competition with the NFL. The 2023 edition is no different.

But what if both leagues could showcase their product in an action-packed football weekend that would better follow the NCAA scheduling format?

That’s exactly what Klatt suggests, and he believes college football leaders should pay for the opportunity to do so.

In an interview with Josh Pate, he broke down that suggestion.

“Our sport, if you really want to grow it, has a chance to grow,” Klatt said. “We should think about things like bringing the NFL into the room. I think that we should bring them into the room and give them a cut of the revenue from the playoff… They hold the power of television windows… If you bring them in, they’ll be more incentivized to give you windows that will be better for your sport.”

It’s an interesting idea, and one that would potentially help avoid these sleepy Monday night playoff matchups.

It would certainly help mirror the college football regular season should the sport land a Saturday window for those highly anticipated postseason outings.

And it could help prop those contests up to an even larger audience if able to follow an NFL doubleheader.

Fans were quick to comment on Joel Klatt’s suggestion.

“It’s a very thoughtful idea and makes a lot of sense.”

“The vibe is so weird…it sometimes feels like the season ends with the semis and the final is an afterthought. Needs to change.”

“Monday kickoff at 8 PM is so dumb.”

“This is spot on.”

It will be interesting to see how the College Football Playoff looks when it expands next season. Will the leaders take Klatt’s suggestion into consideration?
