The Campbell basketball program will be searching for a new head coach this offseason. John Andrzejek announced his intention to leave the school on Wednesday. He blasted the school’s administration in the process.
Andrzejek called his bosses cheap. They were not willing to spend on success. It put him in a no-win position.
As a result, he’s accepted a demotion to move onto Louisville. He’ll be an assistant on Pat Kelsey’s staff.
Who is John Andrzejek?
The Columbia grad served as a student manager while in New York before moving into an operations role with his alma mater. He landed his first coaching gig with Johns Hopkins in 2017.
Since, he’s been an assistant at Dartmouth, Washington State, and Florida.
In 2025, he was hired to his first head coaching role with Campbell basketball. Andrzejek took over a program that won 15 games the year prior. He went 16-18 in his debut.
After just one season, though, he’s walking out the door. He does not believe a commitment is being made by administration. His bosses have been stingy, which is a recipe for disaster in the era of NIL and the transfer portal.

Andrzejek released a statement on his decision Wednesday. He did not hold back in his criticism of bosses.
“I have thrown everything at this program,” it read. “Over the last 6 months, it has become clear that Campbell has made the decision to shift their commitment from basketball. Simply put, the institution now has different priorities, and they are not compatible with putting the kind of team on the floor that you deserve…
“There are no pathways that the institution will support to fund the program appropriately moving forward.”
Andrzejek is taking a demotion…

At least in title. He will move from head coach to assistant, though a significant drop in pay may not be experienced.
Louisville has money. It was one of college basketball’s biggest spenders last season, with a roster believed to be worth at least $10 million.
The coaching staff, too, is adequately compensated.
John Andrzejek will have more support in Kentucky than he did in North Carolina. Basketball is king at Louisville. It was placed on the backburner at Campbell.
The former head coach put himself in a better position to succeed, even if it means no longer calling the shots.
