John Daly is at the PGA Championship, folks, and he’s adding to his already prodigious legend.

Of course he there though. It is the tournament where he attained perhaps his greatest achievement on the PGA Tour.

Who that saw it will ever forget John Daly’s “zero-to-hero” victory in the 1991 PGA Championship at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana, giving him the first of his two major wins.

It was in that tournament that Daly, who only gained entry as the ninth alternate after several other players pulled out, not only won his first major, it was his first PGA Tour win ever.

This year, the PGA Championship is being held at Valhalla Golf Club n Louisville, Kentucky and before even teeing off on Thursday JD has already made an impression.

He’s ripping cigs in practice rounds, looking like the most fun person in the PGA Champions Dinner picture, appearing in iconic photos with Tiger Woods and chilling with Brooks Koepka’s new baby.

What makes the photo of John Daly and Tiger Woods somehow even more special than it already is is the fact that when you zoom in on it you can see Tiger clearly grinning from ear-to-ear as he daps up his longtime friend and rival.

Golf fans, as is always the case, are thrilled to see the PGA Tour 1991 Rookie of the Year and 2004 PGA Tour Comeback Player of the Year back on the course displaying his usual no f—- given attitude.

“Leaning over a ball with a lit cig in your mouth is a skill in and of itself,” read another comment.

This week, the PGA Tour website wisely did a “what’s in your bag” article on John Daly.

Daly’s headcovers are all adorned with his lion logo, bathed in red, white and blue, and embroidered with the phrase “Grip it an rip it.”

Legend.
