So we’re all set for Super Bowl LIV now that the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs have punched their tickets to Miami. Both teams looked very impressive on Sunday leaving little doubt that the most deserving teams will be playing on February 2.
Of course, fans of the Green Bay Packers and Tennessee Titans were very disappointed that their teams won’t be advancing. But there is a whole segment of NFL fandom that had nothing at stake and were just rooting for two good games.
That or for the chance to see a Patrick Mahomes–Aaron Rodgers “State Farm Bowl.”
That’s right. Many NFL fans had some pretty good jokes about wanting to see and being deprived by the 49ers of getting a Super Bowl between the two State Farm spokesmen.
You know there would have been a prop bet on which quarterback would pull out a “discount double-check” belt celebration if it had happened.
Even I have to admit. Once Mahomes worked his magic on the Titans Sunday afternoon, the idea of a “State Farm Bowl” did actually cross my mind as well. Especially after seeing this ad.

And I was not alone.

As disappointed as those folks (and State Farm) were, this guy (actor David Haydn-Jones) was probably even more sad.
