Actor Jon Bernthal stopped by Hot Ones to promote his Broadway revival of Dog Day Afternoon alongside co-star Ebon Moss-Bachrach. During the wing-eating face-off, Bernthal addressed his massively viral comments about naps.

Around March of last year, someone noticed that Jon Bernthal had mentioned in multiple interviews that he has an intense disdain for naps, and cut together the clips of the acclaimed actor railing against the practice.

Essentially, Bernthal’s take is that life moves too quickly, and you — especially “grown men” — should be too busy for naps (the proven cognitive and health benefits of naps, which should, in theory, further optimize a human being apparently did not factor into Bernthal’s hot take).

“Dude, this motherf—– takes naps. I don’t trust people that take naps, dude. Grown a– man. No, dude… It’s like, the whole world is moving while you’re napping, bro. It’s f—— terrible,” he said in one interview.

“I don’t take naps, man. I don’t take naps. That’s for the f—— birds, man. I just ain’t doing that s—,” he said in another.

While chatting with The Bear star Ebon Moss-Bachrach on Hot Ones Versus, the topic of Bernthal’s contempt for naps was broached, leading to the actor half-apologizing for his take.

“I’m really sorry about that … honestly, that got away from me … I got nothing against you if you nap … I feel like you probably do have something better to do than nap, but I’m sorry,” Bernthal said on Hot One‘s challenge show with Dog Day Afternoon co-star Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
