Just over 18 months ago, Jordan Travis had it rolling. The then-Florida State quarterback was a Heisman candidate leading an undefeated Florida State team into the College Football Playoff. But, one pl in a meaningless game against North Alabama changed everything for Travis.
Travis would suffer a catastrophic knee injury against North Alabama, and would miss the rest of the 2023 college season and the entire 2024 NFL season. Now, he’s medically retired from the NFL, showing just how bad that injury was.
The Louisville transfer was very good in 2023 and was dominant in 2024, throwing for over 2500 yards with 20 touchdowns against just 2 picks, and he ran for another 7 scores.
This hit changed everything. If you’re queasy about this stuff, just scroll down.
The injury resulted in a fractured and dislocated ankle for Travis. Despite that, the Jets still used a 5th-rounder on him in the 2024 NFL Draft, intrigued by his potential and hoping that he could recover from his injury.
But, that didn’t happen.
On Wednesday, he released this statement.

As I reflect on my journey, I am overwhelmed with gratitude.
From having the opportunity to live out my dream at Florida State University to hearing my name called in the NFL Draft.I am incredibly thankful for everyone who has poured into me throughout my life and career.
To my family + friends – your unwavering support has meant everything to me.
To the coaches who believed in me and gave me a chance to play the game I love – Thank You.
To my teammates – thank you for pushing me, supporting me, and becoming family.
I am forever grateful for the locker room memories + brotherhood we built. To the entire New York Jets organization – thank you for believing in me and providing me with the opportunity to live out the ultimate dream.
On November 18th, 2023, my life + career took an unexpected turn. I gave everything I had to the rehab process, but despite my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped.
After much prayer + consultation with my doctors + medical team, I have been medically advised to retire from the game I love so deeply. It is crazy how fast life can change. This is not the ending I had ever imagined, but I do trust The Lord’s Plan above all else.
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” – Proverbs 19:21Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of the ride.
With love & sincere gratitude,

I have no doubts that a future in football is there for Jordan Travis if he wants it, whether in broadcasting or in coaching. He was always a class act and a joy to watch. His injury is a stark reminder that the careers of these players can end at any time with just one hit.
