Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has long been one of the NFL’s very best quarterbacks. The quarterback most often mentioned in the same sentence as Patrick Mahomes finally won his first NFL MVP this year.
While the Bills fell short in the playoffs again, it wasn’t Allen’s fault, as he was terrific. And, all of that added up to the biggest contract extension in league history, an extension that should make the league’s other quarterbacks certifiably giddy.
Allen, who will be 29 during the season next year, sign a 6-year, $258 million deal in 2021. That’s a big chunk of change, to say the least, paying him $43 million a year, on average. But, a deal agreed to on Sunday will pay him much, much, more.
Josh Allen was scheduled to make about $130M on last 4 years of contract.
His new deal with #Bills is 6yrs/$330M
Approx $200M raise and 2 more years$55M per year is tied with Lawrence and Burrow for 2nd most in league (Dak is $60M).
$250M in guarantees is most ever in NFL by…— Thad Brown (@thadbrown7) March 9, 2025
Josh Allen, who recently became engaged to actress Hailee Seinfeld, definitely deserves it. He is truly the Buffalo Bills’ franchise.
But, this isn’t so much about Josh Allen as it is the rest of the league’s quarterbacks. $250 million guaranteed is a new NFL record.
If you’re a young quarterback like CJ Stroud or Jayden Daniels eyeing an extension in a few years, this is music to your ears. Those two could easily crack the $300 million guaranteed mark. And, a guy like Patrick Mahomes and maybe even Justin Herbert could be looking to renegotiate their deals to get up to Allen’s number, or over.
