The New York Mets nabbed superstar outfielder Juan Soto from the rival Yankees this week as they get set to make a run in the 2025 MLB season. On Thursday, Soto spoke to the media for the first time since joining his new club.
He dropped a few interesting notes to reporters, including the reasoning behind his decision to leave the Bronx. It seems that exit something that’s been bubbling dating back to his final game in the pinstripes.
Juan Soto was traded from the Padres to the Yankees ahead of the ’24 campaign. He proved to be a major contributor in New York. The slugger led the American League in hits while batting .288 with a career-high 41 home runs.
That helped the Bronx Bombers make a run to the World Series, where they’d eventually lose to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Soto supposedly hasn’t spoken to his teammates since!
He said as much when being introduced with the Mets. He didn’t seem thrilled to be speaking about his former organization.

“I haven’t talked to any of those guys,” he replied when pressed on his communication with the Yankees. “We talked to them through playoffs, but after that, I haven’t talked to anyone.”
He’s apparently ghosted his old team. Soto’s eyes are turned ahead to the future rather than looking back at his last stop. He broke down his reasoning for the change on Thursday.
Juan Soto is asked why he chose to join the Mets:
“The Mets is a great organization. They have all of the ability to keep winning, to try to grow a dynasty. What you were seeing from the other side was unbelievable.” pic.twitter.com/RwZiqFQkKc

There didn’t seem to be any issue with Juan Soto and teammates while a member of the New York Yankees. Still, there doesn’t appear to be any love lost for the players he’s now leaving behind.
As it stands, Soto will soon play on the other end of the Big Apple. He’s ready to change the narrative surrounding the Mets and help them become a dynasty much like his former club. The outfielder will be back in Yankee Stadium May 16-18 for the MLB’s “Rivalry Weekend.” He’ll also face off in a Subway Series July 4-6.
