Kirk Cousins recently found himself as the target of scrutiny once again.
Yesterday, there was a discussion on ESPN’s First Take about the Minnesota Vikings’ numerous close wins throughout this season.
During this discussion, concerns were raised about Kirk Cousins potentially holding the Vikings back.
Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson saw the clip of this discussion and had some issues with the idea of Cousins holding the team back. Jefferson pointed out that Cousins has numbers that are in line with some of the league’s MVP candidates.
All of the Kirk criticism has to stop!! I understand y’all hate the dad swag but come on his numbers are right with y’all’s MVP candidates https://t.co/GOuT4DqwP8

Surprisingly, Jefferson is absolutely right about Kirk Cousins’ numbers this seaoson. He is currently tied for 4th in the NFL in passing touchdowns with 27 and is 5th in the NFL in passing yards with 4117.
Unfortunately for Cousins, he has put together some absolute duds on national television. In Week 2, Cousins and the Vikings offense were absolutely shut down by the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.
In Week 11, the Vikings were embarrassed at home by the Dallas Cowboys in a 40-3 loss that was televised across the country.

Despite those couple of bad showings, Cousins has put together a strong season and it’s hard to say that he’s holding back a team that currently holds a 12-3 record, has already won the AFC North, and currently holds the 2-seed in the NFC.
No Vikings player has benefited from Cousins’ numbers this season like Jefferson. He has already racked up 1756 yards this season, putting him just over 200 yards behind Calvin Johnson for the single-season receiving record with 2 games left to play.
Cousins certainly isn’t the actual MVP candidate on a team with Justin Jefferson, but his play has been a big part of the Vikings putting together this strong season.
