Houston Texans kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn’s full legal name is not Kai’mi Fairbairn. It is 56 letters long.

Fairbairn, who signed with Houston as an undrafted free agent in 2016, has started for the organization ever since. He was the NFL’s scoring leader in 2018, boasts a career field goal percentage of 85.7% with 151 of 176 field goals made, and has scored 642 total points during his eight-year career.

Except Fairbairn did not play as a rookie due to injury, so it’s been more like seven years. 97 games.

Although he goes by Ka’imi Fairbairn, his name is not Ka’imi Fairbairn.

The 29-year-old was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and played for Punahou High School before committing to UCLA and becoming the Pac-12’s record holder for most career points scored.

Fairbairn was named the nation’s top college kicker as a freshman and the rest is history.

He has always gone by Ka’imi Fairbairn.

However, his full name is not as simple. Well, actually, the first part is even more simple!

His double-barreled first name is actually John Christian.

His middle name is Ka’iminoeauloameka’ikeokekumupa’a, which is where “Ka’imi” comes from. It means “seeker of wisdom” in Hawaiian.

His last name is Fairbairn. John Christian Ka’iminoeauloameka’ikeokekumupa’a Fairbairn.

This may have been a well-known fact amongst Bruins or Texans fans, and sickos everywhere. I either did not know before or forgot.

It was quite the surprise when I saw it spelled out in full on Sunday.

The NFL announcers in the booth had a very difficult time with Ka’imi Fairbairn’s middle name. They did their best, but did not come close.

Ka’imi is a lot easier. Let’s keep rolling with Ka’imi Fairbairn.
