Kalen DeBoer took over for Nick Saban at the end of January and completely overhauled the college football program at the University of Alabama. There is a transition in culture that comes with the transition in power.
The head coach’s office serves as the perfect example!
Saban had one of the most recognizable offices in sports by nature of his status as the greatest coach in college football history. Outside of a few rotating images on the walls, it looked exactly the same for 17 years. There were very few bells and whistles. It was old school. The brown coffee table was iconic.
DeBoer is only 49 years old. He was named as the successor to a 72-year-old.
They have very different approaches to the game in a lot of ways. For example, Jalen Milroe recently revealed the exact moment when he realized that the way things used to be are no more. There is a lot more room for expression, personality and joy today compared to the ‘Joyless Murderball’ of old.
Part of DeBoer’s remodel included the office, in a literal sense. Everything from the old office at the Mal Moore Athletic Complex are gone except for one iconic feature that once terrified a young Joey Bosa.

Bo Donaldson, a recruiting assistant on staff at Alabama, recently shared an inside look at the new head coach’s HQ. However, he deleted the video very shortly after it was posted and it no longer lives on TikTok.
Fortunately, I snagged a single screenshot of the video before I tried to circle back and it was gone.
What you see above is the recruiting lounge. It is located right outside of Kalen DeBoer’s full-time office and gives him a space to entertain and pitch recruits. It is not the actual office itself.
With that being said, DeBoer’s new office very closely resembles the recruiting lounge. All of the cabinetry and accoutrements look the same. Everything in the room is very modern,.
You’ll just have to take my word for it. I saw the video with my own two eyes no more than 180 seconds before it was gone forever. The new office is as nice as the lounge, which looks nothing like Nick Saban’s former setup!
