Kalen DeBoer bounced back from a disappointing loss to Florida State with back-to-back blowouts against inferior college football opponents while wearing a hoodie. Alabama fans tried to take credit for the change in momentum but they seem to forget what they were saying around this time last season.
The Crimson Tide fanbase completely melted down because their coach did not wear a collared shirt.
Now 11 months later, they are begging their college football coach not to wear a collar. Completely stupid (but totally real) wardrobe arguments like this are exactly what make this sport so much fun.
Kalen DeBoer lost to Vanderbilt.
Lets rewind to Oct. 5, 2024. Vanderbilt stormed the field after an upset win over Alabama.
We may never see that happen again in our lifetime.
Nashville nearly burned to the ground in celebration. Tuscaloosa nearly burned to the ground in rage.
One of the biggest points of contention stemmed from Kalen Deboer’s shirt. Nick Saban always wore a collar on the sideline. His replacement wore a t-shirt and lost to the Commodores.
People were furious.

One local reporter wrote a scathing column about DeBoer’s shirt and suggested that Miss Terry Saban should be in charge of his wardrobe. It was a meltdown of epic proportions.
The cries of anger were so loud that they made their way into the building.
“Word has gotten back to me about that,” he said during his press conference on that Monday.
Despite all of the frustration about the t-shirt, the head ball coach at Alabama did not bend the knee to the outrage against South Carolina the following week. He wore a black hoodie. The Crimson Tide won.
The legend of the Black Hoodie.
It may not always be the exact same sweatshirt from the game against the Gamecocks last season, but DeBoer typically wears all black from head to toe on the sideline. That has become a focal point of the dialogue in Tuscaloosa.
Kalen DeBoer is 1-4 when he does not wear all black— including the loss Florida State to begin the 2025 season. He is 10-1 when he wears all black— including the win over Wisconsin on Saturday.
DeBoer showed Saban-like qualities during the blowout. He ripped into his players while winning 27-0.

That trend continued into the fourth quarter.

He did the exact same thing in the exact same outfit following the historic upset loss last October.

I would love to believe it has only to do with his wardrobe but it obviously goes much deeper. With that being said, Kalen DeBoer is a different coach in his black hoodie.
The Alabama fans who wanted him to wear a collared shirt were wrong!!
