A referee in the state of Kansas should be placed on temporary leave after his recent antics during a girls high school basketball game between Eduora and Bonner Springs. His egregious flop, while hilarious, is not acceptable behavior from a full-grown man in a position of power.
He should be ashamed.
It will be interesting to see how the Kansas State High School Activities Association chooses to proceed regarding this latest high school basketball incident. The official should be punished.
Eudora defeated Bonner Springs.
Eudora High School is located in the Kansas City suburb of Eudora, with a total enrollment of approximately 550 students in Grades 9-12. Bonner Springs High School is located just 20 miles to the east, with a total enrollment of approximately 800 students in Grades 9-12.
Both girls basketball programs are off to an extremely strong start during the 2025-26 season. They both entered the weekend with only one loss at 7-1.
The Braves traveled to Eudora to face the Cardinals on Friday night. The home team ultimately won by 16 points.
It was a dominant victory but the game did not come without controversy.
A Kansas high school basketball referee went on a power trip.
This truly bizarre sequence of events took place during the second half. There were approximately three minutes remaining in the third quarter. Eudora held a 10-point lead over Bonner Springs.
A Kansas high school basketball referee called a technical foul on a Cardinals player for unsportsmanlike conduct and ejected her from the contest. She was ejected for talking back over a lack of foul call under the basket. I don’t know exactly what she said but it was apparently enough to get her tossed.
He called her for a technical foul during her initial complaint. He hit her with a second technical foul and a subsequent ejection when she turned back to complain a second time.
And then things got weird.
The official followed the Eudora player to the bench to make sure she left the court. The Eudora player seemingly discovered that she had been ejected in that moment and stopped dead in her tracks.
As she turned back to protest the decision, the referee kept moving. She did not get out of his way and placed her hand on his chest. He paused for a brief moment and fell backward to the ground.
Flop!
This is how it all went down on the live broadcast:
This is one of the craziest things I've ever seen lol.

Obviously, you shouldn't put your hands on an official but this fall is wild.
You be the judge.
The official was up right after a commercial break and even administered the tech foul shots lol. pic.twitter.com/UwUl5wYLlr
Although the player barely touched the referee, the referee lied motionless on the court as if he had been shot. He eventually popped right back up after the broadcast came back from a short commercial and even administered the technical foul shots.
The player who was ejected clapped at his performance as she left the court.
Love that she’s clapping as the ref is motionless on the ground 😂 pic.twitter.com/ZYjWPWNrnb

Don’t get me wrong. You simply cannot put your hands on an official in any sport on any level. Period.
However, the ejected athlete had already been ejected so she had literally nothing to lose and her initial push was not at all violent. She barely touched him! He stormed after her and flopped.
The player might be suspended one game for the ejection, which is whatever, but the referee should not be allowed to officiate another high school basketball game this season. We’ll see how the KSHSA decides to move forward.
