Keegan Bradley should have been on the 2023 Ryder Cup team, but he was ultimately snubbed by captain Zach Johnson.
The U.S. went on to get absolutely embarrassed in a 16.5-11.5 rout at the hands of the Europeans at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Italy.
Bradley won’t have to worry about missing the 2025 edition, as Bob Harig of Sports Illustrated reports he’s set to captain the team at Bethpage Black.
“Tiger Woods has turned down the U.S. Ryder Cup captaincy, leading the PGA of America to go off recent protocol with a unique choice to take the job next year at Bethpage Black: Keegan Bradley,” Harig reports.
Obviously, Tiger turning down the gig will steal all the headlines. Many expected Woods would be the captain whenever he wanted the gig and for as long as he wanted it.
Apparently, he does not want it (at least, not at this moment).
But Bradley is an interesting choice.
Keegan Bradley’s U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Resume Is Strong
Bradley played for the U.S. at both the 2012 and 2014 Ryder Cups, with Europe winning each edition. But his personal record is impressive. Bradley is 4-3-0 in his two Ryder Cup appearances, including an impressive 3-1-0 record on home soil at Medinah in 2012.
He also posted a 2-2-1 record for the U.S. at the 2013 Presidents Cup at Muirfield Village.
Bradley’s impressive and motivational response to his 2023 snub showed just how much of a leader he can be.
“This is my suitcase from 2012 Ryder Cup that I haven’t opened since that Sunday. I promised myself I wouldn’t open it till I won a Ryder Cup. That week changed my prospective on golf forever. The Ryder Cup suddenly became very important to me,” he said in a Twitter post at the time.
