Penn State Football’s annual Blue-White spring game was held last weekend and the Nittany Lion players were led onto the field by a very special guest. Keegan-Michael Key led the team onto the field decked out in PSU gear from head to toe while pretending to be James Franklin.

How’d we get here? Well, a while back someone mentioned to Keegan-Michael Key that he shares a striking resemblance with PSU head coach James Franklin. “Somebody had said, you look a little bit like the new head coach. And the rest is history,” He’s a master impressionist as we already know from his time on Key & Peele and his stints as Luther the Anger Translator during Obama’s Correspondent’s Dinners.

Keegan-Michael Key is a Penn State graduate so he relished the chance to hop into the shoes of head coach James Franklin for a minute and lead the team onto the field for the Spring Game.

After leading the team onto the field, Keegan-Michael Key gave an interview:

When asked about their striking resemblance, football head coach Franklin had this to say: “Keegan’s fiancée came up to me and she goes, ‘Coach do you think we should pad Keegan a little bit across the midsection?’ I didn’t necessarily love hearing that.”

It’s never fun getting called out for being doughy in the mid-section and it’s even worse when your job is to coach the most finely tuned athletes in America. I’d be shocked if Coach Franklin is hitting the weight room while I type out this sentence and looks shredded on the sidelines next season.
