Clemson running back Keith Adams Jr. has clarified a confusing social media post surrounding his pending transfer. The ball carrier walked back what many viewed as shade.
Adams had no intentions of disrespecting his former coaching staff. He is simply looking for a program that will put him in the best position to succeed.
Adams has spent four seasons with the Tigers largely in a reserve role. He totaled 58 carries across 32 contests, rushing for 274 yards and two scores.
He announced his decision to leave the program in early December. A few weeks later, he posted a curious message referencing his usage in the Clemson backfield.
Keith Adams Jr. was “not used the right way.”
I was not used the right way at my previous school and have proven multiple times that I am worthy to play. I have 1 more year of eligibility and I plan on making a huge impact on wherever I go. I guarantee I’ll be the hardest running back to tackle in college football. pic.twitter.com/R7dmilaEE6

He does not believe the coaching staff successfully showcased his talents. Adams was often buried on the depth chart, seeing a major dip in production as a redshirt junior.
In 2024, the tailback tallied a career-high 30 careers. Despite uncertainty within the Tigers’ running back room, his usage dipped by more than 50% this past season.
Adams was beaten out by converted wide receiver Adam Randall and true freshman Gideon Davidson.
Randall will soon be off to the NFL. Davidson expects to return.
A door for more playing time appeared open given the dismissal of four-star freshman Marquise Henderson, though the returns of David Eziomume and Jay Haynes would likely put Adams at No. 4 on the depth chart in ’26.
Seeing the writing on the wall, he chose to transfer. He did not intend to burn his bridge on the way out the door.
The transfer clarified his previous comments after receiving backlash.
I have shown nothing but respect to all the coaches and I will continue to do that. I love them and they know that. Please stop trying to twist my words against them. I just need new an opportunity to showcase what I can do. Much love and I respect you all regardless of opinion.

Keith Adams Jr. says his words were twisted. He meant no disrespect to the coaching staff regardless of how his initial comments read.
Adams is a Clemson legacy. His father was an All-American with the Tigers after setting a program record for tackles in 1999.
Adams Jr. wants it to be known that no bad blood exits between him and his former school. He just wants to find a new home with a team that best utilizes his skillset.
