Kelly Clarkson is one of the most well-respected pop culture figures of our time. The Season 1 American Idol winner has gone on to have a fantastic music career and is a beloved talk show host.
When she was tapped alongside host Mike Tirico and NFL legend Peyton Manning to host the Opening Ceremonies of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris for NBC, I think many had high hopes. But, early on in the proceedings, fans online are already criticizing Kelly Clarkson’s cringeworthy performance.
Doing this sort of work is not an easy job. There’s no real rehearsal for something like this if it’s your first time, and it’s a lot of thinking on your feet. She’s not doing well at it, interjecting at seemingly random times with very little productive to say.
These opening ceremonies would be more fun if Kelly Clarkson didn’t react to everything that’s happened like she’s never left her house before.

Hopefully she gets better as the Opening Ceremonies go along, because she’s ruining it for a lot of people right now.
The Summer Olympics officially start today, July 26, and run until August 11.
