Kelsey Plum Refuses To Say What Spike Lee Said To Her At Aces Playoff Game Vs. New York Liberty

Anybody who knows anything about legendary movie producer Spike Lee knows that the man loves his New York sports, especially the Knicks.

Lee can almost always be seen sitting courtside at Madison Square Garden talking trash to NBA players. On Sunday, he continued that tradition at a WNBA playoff showdown between the New York Liberty and Las Vegas Aces in a rematch of the 2023 WNBA Finals.

But Aces star Kelsey Plum wasn’t having any of it, jawing back at Lee until the Hollywood star eventually relented.

Whatever Lee was saying didn’t seem to slow down Plum much. She went 9-of-17 for 24 points in the contest. But the Liberty, behind big games from stars Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu, pulled out an 87-77 victory to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

After the game, reporters asked Plum about the moment between her and Lee. But the three-time WNBA All-Star refused to share what was said.

Kelsey Plum Says Spike Lee Trash Talk Can’t Be Repeated To Media

“I can’t say exactly what was said, but I told him that he should talk louder,” Plum said. “But it was all well and fun and really cool that he’s here, even last round was really cool. I was here. I know he’s big sports fan.”

In all likelihood, whatever was said between Lee and Plum was not safe for print. Lee is known as an all-time heckler, and Plum isn’t afraid to s— talk right back.

So I imagine things got pretty testy.

But most NBA players have shared similar sentiments to Plum about Lee. They enjoy having him courtside and the banter remains all in good fun.

That’s a far cry from the Connecticut Sun fan who needed to be spoken to by security after his verbal abuse of Caitlin Clark. Maybe it’s time for fans to start taking some notes from Spike Lee.
